While the Waldie Girls represent a wide range of Muskoka properties, they have over time developed a special affection for, and expertise in, Muskoka’s Historic Great Estates, where architectural features such as basswood carpentry, breezy verandahs, and natural stone chimneys evoke legendary tales of prominent Canadian and American families who spent long summers on the lake in the first half of the twentieth century. Since starting her career in 1987, Sandy has represented the majority of estate sales in the vicinities of these four featured properties. “We know the history, the neighbourhoods, the people that have been there, and the people that are there now,” she explains, “and more importantly, we understand why these distinguished and coveted neighbourhoods are so important to Muskoka and so rarely offered.”
Adam is a sixth-generation member of one of Lake Rosseau’s most esteemed founding families. Adam brings 21 years of experience and continues the legacy of his father, Richard Wallace, whose more than half a century of service helped shape real estate across Lakes Joseph, Rosseau, and Muskoka.

The first property we visit is historic Birchcove, located on the beautiful Windermere shores of Lake Rosseau. Birchcove was given as a gift in 1896 to the current owner’s great-grandfather and completed in 1905.
From its lakeside vantage, the property looks toward the original, history-filled Eaton Point, Rockledge. Driving through pastoral meadows to the ancient stone entry gates, the love and lore of this classic sunset offering speaks to you.
The principal cottage, a gracious six-bedroom home, feels plucked straight from the pages of a fairy tale, with sweeping verandas, gingerbread scalloped trim, and a waterside stone sunset terrace. With toddler-friendly beaches, a flagstone firepit at the shoreline, deep, clear waters, and long southwest lake views there isn’t anything you don’t get here, according to Sandy. “You’re at ‘centre-ice’ Lake Joe here,” she says, “just minutes from both Port Sandfield and Port Carling, with everything a family could need for both quiet retreat and active lake life.
The next property we visit sits in the highly desirable Scarcliffe Point area of North Beaumaris, Lake Muskoka. Among the first properties settled on the lake, “Norcliffe” remained in the same family for more than 120 years before being purchased by its current owner in 2005.
The summer house is classic in style, with basswood-lined walls, screened lakeside porches, and a fresh whitewashed Caesarstone kitchen. To complement the original historic cottage, an outstanding, circa-2007, Tamarack-built three-slip winterized boathouse includes an elegant two-bedroom pied-à-terre atop.
The land is anchored by a magnificent point that shelters its own protected cove, an idyllic setting for moonlit skinny dips and quiet morning swims. Alongside the signature point, a historic sauna change house is encircled by sun-drenched dockage.
“I actually represented both the former seller and the current owner in the purchase of Norcliffe 21 years ago,” recalls Sandy. “So, this is something of a full-circle moment, and wholly meaningful to me, as relationships are what we have built decades of our continually award-winning business platform from.”
In a letter written to Sandy, the owner observed of their family’s deeply felt connection to the property: “There was a reason that Norcliffe was among the very first cottages built on the mainland back in 1886. The standard that defines a perfect location hasn’t really changed in 140 years. Cottages and garages and boathouses come and go, but the property, the vista, the waterfront and the wind will outlast all of us.”
We stay on Lake Muskoka for the final stop on our tour, where Sandy and Samantha bring us to a magnificent, tree-lined drive. Located discreetly within the coveted Beaumaris, Port Carling corridor, this southwesterly Lake Muskoka estate combines the best of traditional and modern architecture to sublime effect.
