HIDEAWAYS consulted one of Muskoka’s best interior designers to find out what is trending now. Karina Hunter of Summer House Interiors at Gravenhurst’s Wharf summed up her insights into the latest colours, textures, and quirky accessories.

There is a strong push to bring nature indoors and to respect the treasures from the past in today’s interior design. Keywords of the day are ‘natural’, ‘organic’, and ‘recycled’; and the fabrics, furniture, and accents reflect these trends.

The renewed nod to nature and tradition is a refreshing trend, evoking the beauty of Muskoka’s scenery in the earthy choices for today’s interior décor.

Muskoka interior decor — Fashion meets function in this bed, with a linen headboard, underneath storage, and space for a mattress to create a trundle bed.

Natural, organic, and recycled are today’s keywords. Linen and cotton bedding and throws. Sisal and seagrass rugs. Decorative birch logs, grasses and reeds. Pressed botanicals in distressed wooden frames. Glass and metal fixtures, often with an industrial or nautical flavour. Cowhide and leather in upholstered pieces with nailhead finish. Light and airy colours: breezy blues, sprightly greens, and varying shades of grey.
