Water, it's why we love Muskoka!

Unlike any other exhibit in Ontario, Watershed Wonders is a behind-the-scenes, interactive adventure, for the whole family, about the importance of Muskoka's watershed.

Dive into an environment most of us never see. Discover why so many people consider Muskoka one of the natural wonders of Canada!

The organization’s new state-of-the-art Watershed Wonders exhibit is designed to instill wonder through discovery. Visitors experience a dynamic, entertaining and educational journey that amazes and inspires by delving deep into the beauty and remarkable inner workings of the Muskoka Watershed.

Text, images and over a dozen audiovisual touchscreen units (AV) encourage visitors to explore, discover and wonder. For example:

• At the entrance, an introductory AV unit showcases the size and complexity of the watershed, showing lakes, rivers, dams, wetlands, roads and communities.
• Within the exhibit, a virtual aquarium (96” screen) invites the visitor to touch one of the fish swimming by. A text screen then pops up describing the fish and its place in the watershed.
• (A virtual aquarium is not filled with water and real fish. It seems incredibly real, courtesy of software.)
• In our aquarium will have Lake Trout, Walleye, Northern Pike, Whitefish, Millifoid, ships, beaver and more!

Text, images and AV units deployed throughout the exhibit describe:

• The size and complexity of the watershed and how it works
• The many plants, trees and creatures and their natural environments as well as the challenges they face
• Humans and their Watershed tales
• The flow of water, hydropower, water level management
• How stewardship makes a difference
• How watershed health can be sustained over the long term

Fun and wonder are the glue that makes learning stick!  Watershed Wonders is a sticky learning environment where visitors will experience fun, wonder and excitement!

• The Eco-friendly Shoreline, brings to life that intriguing setting where the land meets the water
• Our Virtual Aquarium touch screen, is a hands-on introduction to life under the water surface
• The Water Management game encourages a player to create a flood, then see the impact on the watershed
• Name the species and match their habitats – use what you learn the next time a creature visits your backyard or cottage dock
• Invasive Species teaches players to recognize non-native species that studies reveal have a negative impact on the watershed
• Under water tunnel crawl, you don’t get wet as you discover what it is like to be a fish or tiny creature living near the shoreline.
• Didja Know - so many facts, so little time – return again and again to Watershed Wonders, the discovery never stops!
